Multiplication and division begin with the times tables — fluency to 12 × 12 by the end of Year 4, which the Multiplication Tables Check assesses — and build into short and long multiplication, short and long division, and the interpretation of a remainder in context. Factors, multiples and primes are introduced here and return at GCSE as prime factorisation, the highest common factor and the lowest common multiple. Phase 2 will cover Years 1 to 6 in full.
