How to use it
- How an exact age is worked out: count whole years from the date of birth to the date of calculation, then fill in the remaining months from the birth day-of-month, and finally the days since the last full month.
- Special case — 16 and a half: that means 16 full years have passed, plus exactly 6 full months from the date of birth. If you were born on 5 January, you turn 16 and a half exactly on 5 July.
- Practical uses: life insurance, school admission by exact age (any child born by 31 December), completing child benefit and pension forms, and working out staff leave entitlement.
- A common mistake: some people just subtract years, which ignores leap years. This tool uses the real Gregorian calendar, so the result is accurate to the day (365.2425 days per year) rather than a rough average.
