⏱️ Ten-minute starters — Foundation
Twelve short questions, two from each of the six content areas: number, algebra, ratio, geometry, probability and statistics. Nothing here needs more than a minute, and nothing needs a calculator. It is built as a lesson starter — print it, hand it out, take ten minutes, mark it together — and it works just as well as a daily warm-up at home in the fortnight before a mock. The value is in the spread rather than the depth: a student who has spent a week on algebra can find out in ten minutes what a week away from statistics has cost. Generate a new sheet whenever you want a fresh twelve on the same pattern.
- 1.y = 5 − 2x. Work out the value of x when y = 11.
- 2.A number machine adds 6 to its input. Work out the output when the input is −4.
- 3.A recipe for 6 muffins needs 150 g of flour. Aisha wants to make 15 muffins using the same recipe. Work out how much flour she needs.
- 4.The probability that a plant grown from a seed packet germinates is 7/10. Work out the probability that it does not germinate.
- 5.A point has coordinates (x, y). In which two quadrants is the product x × y positive?
- 6.The three angles of a triangle are 10°, 58° and 112°. Write down the name that describes this triangle.
- 7.Work out the median of these six numbers: 13, 21, 22, 36, 37, 47
- 8.Triangle T has a vertex at (8, 4). It is enlarged by a scale factor of 1/2, centre (2, 4). Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
- 9.Write the ratio 5 : 8 in the form 1 : n.
- 10.A footpath is 3750 m long. Work out this distance in kilometres.
- 11.A fruit punch is made from orange juice, pineapple juice and lemonade in the ratio 5:3:2. A jug holds 3.5 litres of punch in total. Work out the volume of pineapple juice needed.
- 12.The number of members of a running club increases from 45 to 54. Work out the percentage increase.
