- 1.The line y = 3x + 6 meets the x-axis at one point. Work out the coordinates of that point.y = 3x + 6
- 2.Isla says that the lines y = 2x + 1 and y = −2x + 3 are parallel. Write down the statement that gives the correct answer for the correct reason.y = 2x + 1y = -2x + 3
- 3.A ramp rises 3 m over a horizontal distance of 12 m. Work out the gradient of the ramp.
- 4.Work out the gradient of the straight line that passes through the points (−1, 5) and (3, −7).
- 5.The graph of y = mx + 6 passes through the point (−2, 0). Work out the value of m.
- 6.A hot air balloon is at a height of 20 m and rises at a steady rate. After 4 minutes it is at a height of 52 m. Work out the rate at which the balloon rises, in metres per minute.
- 7.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation y = (2x/5) − 3.
- 8.Write down the coordinates of the point where the line y = 2x + 4 crosses the y-axis.y = 2x + 4
- 9.Write down the y-intercept of the line with equation y = 3x + 8.y = 3x + 8
- 10.A candle is 30 cm tall when lit and burns at a constant rate. After burning for 5 minutes, its height is 20 cm. The height h cm after t minutes is given by h = 30 − mt. Work out the value of m.
- 11.A mobile phone plan charges a fixed monthly fee plus an amount for each gigabyte of data used. The total cost £C for using g gigabytes in a month is given by C = 15 + 2g. What does the number 2 represent in this formula?
- 12.Line C passes through (0, 0) and (4, 2). Line D passes through (0, 0) and (2, 2). Write down which of the two lines is the steeper.
- 13.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation 2x + y = 8.
- 14.A tank already contains some water and is then filled at a constant rate. After 2 minutes it contains 50 litres in total; after 7 minutes it contains 150 litres in total. Work out the rate at which water is added, in litres per minute.
- 15.The graph of a straight line has equation y = 4x − 5. Beth says the y-intercept is 4. Work out the correct y-intercept.y = 4x − 5
