- 1.The diagram shows a distance–time graph for a cyclist travelling at a constant speed, for the first 6 minutes of a journey. Distance is in kilometres and time is in minutes. Work out how far the cyclist would travel in 20 minutes at the same speed.
- 2.Solve the simultaneous equations x + y = 1 and 2x + y = 5.
- 3.Solve 2x² = 18.
- 4.The first five cube numbers are 1, 8, 27, 64, 125. Write down the next cube number in the sequence.
- 5.a = 2 and b = 5. Work out the value of ab².
- 6.A car's speed-time graph shows the following: its speed increases steadily from 0 m/s to 20 m/s over the first 10 seconds, then stays constant at 20 m/s for the next 15 seconds. Work out the total distance travelled in the first 25 seconds.
- 7.A company's profit is £500 in its first year. Each year after that, the profit is £300 more than the year before. Work out the profit in the company's 6th year.
- 8.A plumber charges a £40 call-out fee plus £25 for each hour worked. The total charge, £C, for a job lasting h hours is given by C = 40 + 25h. Work out the charge for a job lasting 3 hours, and name what kind of statement C = 40 + 25h is.
- 9.Which expression is equivalent to 6x − (2x − 5)?
- 10.To solve 6x − 4 = 2x + 20, Yusuf's first step is to subtract 2x from both sides. Work out what equation this gives.
- 11.Harry will spend at most £150 on a party. The cake costs £60 and each helium balloon costs £3. Solve an inequality to find all the possible numbers of balloons, x, that he can buy.
- 12.Sophie's mother is 34 years old. In x years' time she will be 50 years old. Work out the value of x.
- 13.A straight line passes through the points (1, 3) and (2, 5). Work out the equation of the line.
- 14.Make c the subject of the formula k = 6c.
- 15.A charity's fundraising total, T pounds, over d days follows T = (d − 3)(30 − d) for 3 ≤ d ≤ 30, where T = 0 marks the start and end of the campaign. Work out how many days the campaign runs for, from start to end.
