- 1.a = 3 and b = 5. Work out the value of a²b.
- 2.Leo is three times as old as his brother. His brother is x years old. Write down an expression for Leo's age.
- 3.A ramp rises 3 m over a horizontal distance of 12 m. Work out the gradient of the ramp.
- 4.A fundraising chain letter starts with 3 people taking part in round 1. Each following round has 4 times as many people taking part as the round before. Work out the number of people taking part in round 4.
- 5.The cost, in pounds, of hiring a van for d days is given by the formula C = 25 + 18d. A customer's hire cost £133. Work out how many days, d, they hired the van for, by first rearranging the formula to make d the subject.
- 6.The volume of a cuboid is given by the formula V = lwh. Work out V, in cm³, when l = 2, w = 3 and h = 6.
- 7.n = 3. Work out the value of (2n)².
- 8.The line y = 3x + 6 meets the x-axis at one point. Work out the coordinates of that point.y = 3x + 6

- 12.Here are the first five terms of an arithmetic sequence: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14. Work out the 8th term.
- 13.Factorise fully 12x² + 18x.
- 14.The first four terms of a sequence are 18, 15, 12, 9. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the nth term.
- 15.The nth term of a sequence is 3n + 2. Work out the 4th term of the sequence.
