- 1.Solve the inequality 3x − 1 ≤ 11.
- 2.n = 3. Work out the value of (2n)².
- 3.Write down the expression that means the same as (x + 7) ÷ 4.
- 4.The formula for the perimeter of a rectangle is P = 2(l + w). One rectangle has l = 9 cm and w = 4 cm. A second rectangle has l = 6 cm and w = 5 cm. Work out how many cm greater the perimeter of the first rectangle is than the perimeter of the second.
- 5.Simplify k + k + k + k + k.
- 6.Solve the simultaneous equations x + y = 15 and x − y = 3. Work out the value of x.
- 7.The area of a circle is given by the formula A = πr², where r is the radius. Rearrange the formula to make r the subject.
- 8.Matchsticks are laid out as a row of squares, with each new square sharing a side with the square before it. The first square uses 4 matchsticks and every extra square uses 3 more. Work out how many matchsticks a row of 4 squares uses.
- 9.A company's profit was £2000 in its first year. Each following year, the profit increases by £800. Work out the first year in which the profit is more than £7000.
- 10.Water is poured into a container at a constant rate. A graph of the depth of the water, in cm, against the time since pouring began, in minutes, is a straight line through the origin, and it passes through the point (3, 12). Use the graph to work out the depth of the water after 7 minutes.
- 11.Solve the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 7 and x − y = 2.
- 12.A phone company works out a monthly bill, £B, using the formula B = 18 + 0.05t, where £18 is the fixed monthly charge and t is the number of extra text messages sent beyond the free allowance, each charged at 5p. Farida's bill for one month is £24.50. Work out the number of extra text messages, t, she sent.
- 13.A straight line has equation y = 4x + 3. A second line is parallel to the first line and passes through the point (0, −5). Work out the equation of the second line.y = 4x + 3
- 14.Solve the simultaneous equations 3x + 2y = 16 and x + y = 7. Work out the value of y.
- 15.Point P has coordinates (2, −5). P is reflected in the x-axis to point Q. Write down the coordinates of Q.
