- 1.There are 30 students in a Year 10 maths class. There are 2 more boys than girls. Work out the number of boys and the number of girls.
- 2.The graph of y = x² − 5x + 6 crosses the x-axis at two points. By factorising, work out the x-coordinates of these two points.y = x² − 5x + 6
- 3.A runner's journey is shown on a distance-time graph: she runs 8 km in the first hour, rests for 30 minutes with no distance gained, then runs a further 4 km in the next 30 minutes. Work out her average speed for the whole journey, in kilometres per hour.
- 4.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation 2x + y = 8.
- 5.A straight line has equation y = 4x + 3. A second line is parallel to the first line and passes through the point (0, −5). Work out the equation of the second line.y = 4x + 3
- 6.Write down the coordinates of the point that is 4 units to the left of the origin and 7 units up.
- 7.The cost, in pounds, of hiring a van for d days is given by the formula C = 25 + 18d. A customer's hire cost £133. Work out how many days, d, they hired the van for, by first rearranging the formula to make d the subject.
- 8.The point F has x-coordinate −1 and lies 6 units above the x-axis. Write down the coordinates of F.
- 9.A quadratic graph y = ax² + bx + c has its turning point on the y-axis. Which statement about its roots must be true?
- 10.The formula for the perimeter of a square is P = 4s, where s is the side length. Make s the subject of the formula.
- 11.Write down the expression that means the same as (x + 7) ÷ 4.
- 12.A point has coordinates (−6, 9). Work out the sum of the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate.
- 13.A rectangular garden has width w metres and length (w + 3) metres. A gardener writes its perimeter as 2w + 3. Which statement corrects the gardener's mistake?
- 14.The perimeter of a rectangle is given by the formula P = 2(l + w), where l is the length and w is the width. A rectangular garden has a perimeter of 46 m and a length of 14 m. Rearrange the formula to make w the subject, then work out the width of the garden.
- 15.A number machine adds 6 to its input. Work out the output when the input is −4.
