- 1.Work out the equation of the straight line that passes through (−2, 3) and (4, −9).
- 2.There are 30 students in a Year 10 maths class. There are 2 more boys than girls. Work out the number of boys and the number of girls.
- 3.A rule turns each input into an output. An input of 0 gives an output of −1, an input of 1 gives an output of 1, and an input of 2 gives an output of 3. Work out the rule, writing the input as x and the output as y.
- 4.A caterer uses the formula C = 6p + 20 to work out the total cost, £C, of a buffet for p people, where £20 covers fixed costs. A customer is charged £92. Work out how many people, p, the buffet was for.

- 7.A taxi fare in pounds is given by F = 2.50 + 1.20m, where m is the number of miles travelled. Sam takes a taxi for a journey of 6 miles. Work out the fare.

- 9.A company charges for hiring chairs for a day. Hiring 1 chair costs £12, hiring 2 chairs costs £19, hiring 3 chairs costs £26, and hiring 4 chairs costs £33. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the cost in pounds of hiring n chairs for a day.
- 10.The formula for the area of a trapezium is A = (a + b)h / 2, where a and b are the parallel side lengths and h is the height. Make h the subject of the formula.
- 11.Work out the values of x and y that satisfy both x + y = 10 and x − y = 4.
- 12.The solution to an inequality is n ≤ 5. Write down the largest integer value of n that satisfies this inequality.
- 13.The point B has coordinates (−2, −2). In which quadrant is B?
- 14.The diagram shows part of the graph of a reciprocal function of the form , passing through the labelled point. Work out the value of k.
