- 1.Write down the expression that means the same as 3 × y × y.
- 2.A triangle has vertices at (1, 1), (1, 5) and (6, 1). Work out the area of the triangle.
- 3.Simplify p + p + p.
- 4.x = 5. Work out the value of 3x² − 4.
- 5.Which of these equations is equivalent to 5x − 2 = 3x + 8?
- 6.A geometric sequence begins 162, 54, 18, 6, ... Work out the next term in the sequence.
- 7.A rule multiplies the input by a fixed number and then adds a fixed number. An input of 1 gives an output of 5, and an input of 3 gives an output of 11. Work out the rule, writing the input as x and the output as y.
- 8.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² + 2, where n is the position number. Work out the 6th term.
- 9.The formula for converting a temperature from degrees Celsius, C, to degrees Fahrenheit, F, is F = 1.8C + 32. Work out F when C = 20, and identify what kind of mathematical statement F = 1.8C + 32 is.
- 10.The formula for the circumference of a circle is C = 2πr, where r is the radius. Make r the subject of the formula.
- 11.A straight line has equation y = 2x − 7. Write down the coordinates of the point where the line crosses the y-axis.y = 2x − 7
- 12.A sequence starts at 2. Each term after that is found using the rule "double the previous term, then add 1". Work out the 4th term of the sequence.
- 13.A phone plan costs a fixed £15 per month plus 8p per minute of calls. In one month, Jamal's bill was £23.80. Form an equation using m for the number of minutes, and solve it to find how many minutes Jamal used that month.
- 14.A rectangle has length k cm and width 5 cm less than its length. Write down an expression for the width of the rectangle, in cm.
- 15.A ribbon of length L metres is cut into 5 equal pieces, and then 3 metres is removed from one piece. Write down an expression, in metres, for the length of that piece after 3 metres is removed.
