- 1.The perimeter of a rectangle is given by the formula P = 2(l + w), where l is the length and w is the width. A rectangular garden has a perimeter of 46 m and a length of 14 m. Rearrange the formula to make w the subject, then work out the width of the garden.
- 2.The nth term of a sequence is 3n + 2. Work out the 4th term of the sequence.
- 3.A packet contains s sweets. The sweets are shared equally between f friends. Write an expression for the number of sweets each friend receives.

- 9.A photo printing service has two adverts for its price. Advert A: cost in pounds = 3(2n + 4) for n photos. Advert B: cost in pounds = 6n + 12. A customer says the two adverts always charge the same amount. Is the customer correct?
- 10.The diagram shows the graph of , together with the horizontal line . Use the graphs to estimate, to 1 decimal place, the two solutions of .
- 11.A ramp rises 3 m over a horizontal distance of 12 m. Work out the gradient of the ramp.
- 12.A formula is F = 4s. A pupil says that when s = 5 the value of F is 9, because they added 4 and 5 instead of multiplying. Work out the correct value of F when s = 5.
