- 1.Work out the value of 5y + 9 when y = 0
- 2.A car's speed-time graph shows the following: its speed increases steadily from 0 m/s to 20 m/s over the first 10 seconds, then stays constant at 20 m/s for the next 15 seconds. Work out the total distance travelled in the first 25 seconds.
- 3.Solve x² − 5x + 6 = 0 by factorising.
- 4.Work out the value of a² − 2b when a = −3 and b = 4.
- 5.A square tile has an area of 144 cm². Work out the side length of the tile.
- 6.A rule multiplies the input by a fixed number and then adds a fixed number. An input of 1 gives an output of 5, and an input of 3 gives an output of 11. Work out the rule, writing the input as x and the output as y.
- 7.A caterer uses the formula C = 6p + 20 to work out the total cost, £C, of a buffet for p people, where £20 covers fixed costs. A customer is charged £92. Work out how many people, p, the buffet was for.
- 8.A company's profit was £2000 in its first year. Each following year, the profit increases by £800. Work out the first year in which the profit is more than £7000.
- 9.Factorise x² − 3x − 10.
- 10.A square has vertices at (−2, 3), (−2, −3) and (4, −3). Write down the coordinates of the fourth vertex.
- 11.A rectangular photo has length (x + 3) cm and width x cm. Its area is 40 cm². Work out the value of x.
