- 1.The simultaneous equations 2x + 3y = 12 and x − y = 1 are given. Work out the value of y.
- 2.A ball's height, h metres, t seconds after being thrown follows h = (t − 1)(9 − t). Given that the ball is at ground level at t = 1 and t = 9, work out at what time t the ball reaches its maximum height, using symmetry.
- 3.The perimeter, P, of a rectangle with length l and width w is calculated using P = 2l + 2w. What kind of mathematical statement is P = 2l + 2w?
- 4.Make c the subject of the formula k = 6c.
- 5.The graph of y = x² + 2x − 15 crosses the x-axis at two points. By factorising, work out the x-coordinates of these two points.y = x² + 2x − 15
- 6.Simplify p + p + p.
- 7.A square has sides of length y cm. Write down an expression for the perimeter of the square.
- 8.Write down the coordinates of the point that is 4 units to the left of the origin and 7 units up.
- 9.Write down the gradient of the line with equation y = −x + 3.y = −x + 3
- 10.The mean of four numbers is 12.5. Three of the numbers are 8, 15 and 19. Form an equation using n for the fourth number, and solve it to find n.
- 11.A ramp rises 3 m over a horizontal distance of 12 m. Work out the gradient of the ramp.
- 12.Leo is three times as old as his brother. His brother is x years old. Write down an expression for Leo's age.
- 13.Solve the inequality 9 − 2x ≥ 1.
- 14.The graph of y = x² − 2x − 8 crosses the x-axis at x = −2 and x = 4. Work out the x-coordinate of the turning point of the curve, using the symmetry of the graph.y = x² − 2x − 8
- 15.Grace says that 2(x + 1) and 2x + 2 always have the same value. Work out the value of both expressions when x = 3.
