- 1.A number machine multiplies its input by 3. The output is 15. Work out the input.
- 2.The first five terms of a quadratic sequence are 2, 5, 10, 17, 26. Work out the next term in the sequence.
- 3.The height, h metres, of a ball t seconds after a stopwatch is started follows h = (t − 1)(5 − t) for 1 ≤ t ≤ 5, where h = 0 means the ball is at ground level. Work out the two times at which the ball is at ground level.
- 4.Four sequences are shown below. Sequence P: 4, 8, 16, 32, ... Sequence Q: 4, 8, 12, 16, ... Sequence R: 4, 7, 12, 19, ... Sequence S: 4, 9, 16, 25, ... Work out which of the sequences P, Q, R and S is geometric.
- 5.The formula for the area of a trapezium is A = (a + b)h / 2, where a and b are the parallel side lengths and h is the height. Make h the subject of the formula.
- 6.A packet contains s sweets. The sweets are shared equally between f friends. Write an expression for the number of sweets each friend receives.
