- 1.A straight line passes through the points (−1, 2) and (3, 14). Work out the equation of the line.
- 2.Which of these values of x is a solution of x² + 2x − 15 = 0?
- 3.The mean of four numbers is 12.5. Three of the numbers are 8, 15 and 19. Form an equation using n for the fourth number, and solve it to find n.
- 4.The first five square numbers are 1, 4, 9, 16, 25. Write down the next square number in the sequence.
- 5.A cycle route is 84 km long. Freya sets off along it at a steady 14 km/h. Write down the function for the distance y, in kilometres, that is still to be cycled after x hours.
- 6.Two numbers have a sum of 50. The larger number is twice the smaller number. Work out the smaller number.
- 7.Solve the simultaneous equations 4x + 3y = 25 and 4x − y = 1. Work out the value of y.
- 8.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² + 1, where n is the position number. Work out how much bigger the 5th term is than the 4th term.

- 11.A geometric sequence has first term 3 and common ratio 2. Work out the 5th term of the sequence.
- 12.In a sequence, each term is half the term before it. The sequence begins 100, 50, 25. Write down the next term.
- 13.A cinema sells adult tickets for £10 and child tickets for £6. A family group buys 9 tickets in total, spending £74. Work out how many adult tickets were bought.
- 14.The point (−4, 7) is moved 4 units to the right and 9 units down. Write down the coordinates of the point it reaches.
- 15.Work out the equation of the straight line through the points (−3, 4) and (1, −8).
