- 1.A cyclist's journey is shown on a distance–time graph. The graph is a straight line from (0 minutes, 0 km) to (40 minutes, 12 km). Work out her speed in kilometres per hour.
- 2.Solve the inequality 2(x − 1) ≤ 8.
- 3.The formula connecting speed, distance and time is v = s ÷ t. Work out v, in km/h, when s = 180 and t = 4.
- 4.A speed-time graph for a car shows the speed increasing steadily from 5 m/s to 17 m/s over 6 seconds. Work out the acceleration of the car, in m/s².
- 5.Work out the equation of the straight line through the points (−2, 1) and (0, 7).
- 6.A number machine adds 1 to its input. Isla says that an input of 5 gives an output of 6. Which statement is correct?
- 7.The graph of t = 240 ÷ s shows how the time, t hours, taken for a car journey of 240 miles depends on its average speed, s mph. Use the relationship to work out the time taken when the average speed is 48 mph.
- 8.A geometric sequence starts at 3, and each term after that is found by multiplying the term before it by 2. Write down the first four terms.
- 9.The graph of y = 20/x is drawn for x > 0. As the value of x increases, what happens to the value of y?
- 10.Simplify 2a + 3b − a + 2b − b
- 11.For the graph of y = 1/x, where x cannot be zero, which of these statements is correct?
- 12.Simplify 5x + 3y − 2x + y.
- 13.Which expression is equivalent to 4(x − 2) + 10?
- 14.Ethan is 10 years old and his father is 40 years old. Work out how many years ago Ethan's father was seven times as old as Ethan.
- 15.Which of these equations is true for every value of x, making it an identity rather than an equation with just one solution?
