- 1.The formula connecting distance (d), speed (s) and time (t) is d = st. Make s the subject of the formula.
- 2.y = 5 − 2x. Work out the value of x when y = 11.
- 3.The area of a circle is given by the formula A = πr², where r is the radius. Rearrange the formula to make r the subject.
- 4.Solve 2x² = 18.
- 5.Work out the value of 3n − 2 when n = 1
- 6.The formula for the perimeter of a square is P = 4s, where s is the side length. Make s the subject of the formula.
- 7.A formula is F = 4s. A pupil says that when s = 5 the value of F is 9, because they added 4 and 5 instead of multiplying. Work out the correct value of F when s = 5.
- 8.A student says that (x + 4)² is equivalent to x² + 16. For which value of x do the two expressions give the SAME result, making it look (misleadingly) like the student could be right?
- 9.How many turning points does the graph of y = x² − 7x + 10 have?y = x² − 7x + 10
- 10.A rectangular garden has length (x + 7) m and width (x − 7) m. Work out an expression for the area of the garden, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 11.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² + 1, where n is the position number. Work out how much bigger the 5th term is than the 4th term.
- 12.A point has coordinates (−6, 9). Work out the sum of the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate.
- 13.Write down the expression that means the same as (x + 7) ÷ 4.
- 14.A geometric sequence has first term 5, and each term after that is 3 times the term before it. Work out the first term of the sequence that is greater than 1000.
- 15.Solve the simultaneous equations x + y = 15 and x − y = 3. Work out the value of x.
