- 1.Yusuf has £40 saved and adds £6 each week. His sister Aisha has £10 saved and adds £11 each week. After how many weeks will they have saved the same amount?
- 2.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation y = (2x/5) − 3.
- 3.a = 3 and b = 5. Work out the value of a²b.
- 4.Make x the subject of the formula y = (x − 4)/5.
- 5.To rearrange the formula y = 3x − 8 to make x the subject, Priya writes: 'Add 8 to both sides to get y + 8 = 3x, then divide both sides by 3 to get x = y + 8 ÷ 3.' Work out the correct expression for x.y = 3x − 8
- 6.A scout leader is 44 years old and one of the scouts is 16 years old. Work out how many years it will be until the leader is exactly twice as old as the scout.
- 7.The diagram shows the graph of a function. Which equation could it represent?
- 8.A printer starts a job with 480 sheets of paper loaded and prints at a steady rate. The number of sheets left, S, after t minutes is given by S = 480 − 24t. Work out how many minutes it takes for the paper to run out completely.
- 9.A box holds n pencils. A shop has 6 full boxes and 4 loose pencils. All of these pencils are shared equally between 2 classes. Write down the expression for the number of pencils each class receives.
- 10.The graph of y = x² − 2x − 8 takes these values: when x = −2, y = 0; when x = −1, y = −5; when x = 0, y = −8; when x = 3, y = −5; when x = 4, y = 0. Use these values to write down the two solutions of x² − 2x − 8 = 0.y = x² − 2x − 8
