- 1.The curved part of a circle's circumference, between two points on the circle, has its own name. Write down this name.
- 2.A diameter divides a circle into two equal halves. Write down the special name given to each of these two halves.
- 3.Every point on a circle is exactly the same distance from one particular point. Write down the name of that point.
- 4.A tangent to a circle touches the circle at exactly one point, P. Work out the size of the angle between the tangent and the radius drawn to P.
- 5.A circle has circumference 31.4 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 6.A circle is drawn on a page. Write down how many radii can be drawn in the circle.
- 7.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 8.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
- 9.A chord divides a circle into two segments of different sizes. Write down the name given to the smaller of the two segments.
- 10.A tangent to a circle with centre O touches the circle at point P, where OP = 5 cm. Point Q lies on the tangent so that PQ = 12 cm. Using the fact that a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact, work out the length OQ.
- 11.A circle has centre O. Radii OA and OB are drawn, together with the arc AB, enclosing a sector. The straight chord AB is also drawn. Write down the name of the region enclosed between the chord AB and the arc AB.
- 12.In one circle, chord PQ is 6 cm long, chord RS is 10 cm long, chord TU is 14 cm long and chord VW is 15 cm long. Write down which of these chords lies closest to the centre of the circle.
- 13.A circle has a radius of 3 cm. Work out the diameter of the circle.
- 14.A trundle wheel has a diameter of 0.5 m. It is rolled along the ground and makes 20 complete turns. Using π = 3.14, work out the total distance rolled, in metres.
- 15.A tangent touches a circle with centre O at the point P. Q is a point on the tangent. Write down the circle fact that tells you the size of angle OPQ.
