- 1.A sector of a circle is bounded by two straight edges and one curved edge. Write down the mathematical term for each of the two straight edges.
- 2.A chord is drawn across a circle, dividing the circle into two regions. Write down the name of one of these two regions.
- 3.A circle has centre O. Radii OA and OB are drawn, together with the arc AB, enclosing a sector. The straight chord AB is also drawn. Write down the name of the region enclosed between the chord AB and the arc AB.
- 4.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° at the centre. Write down what fraction of the whole circle this sector represents.
- 5.A tangent to a circle touches the circle at exactly one point, P. Work out the size of the angle between the tangent and the radius drawn to P.
- 6.A chord divides a circle into two regions, one larger than the other. Write down the term used for the smaller of these two regions.
- 7.A trundle wheel has a diameter of 0.5 m. It is rolled along the ground and makes 20 complete turns. Using π = 3.14, work out the total distance rolled, in metres.
- 8.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 9.A circular table mat has diameter 20 cm. Yasmin has a 70 cm length of ribbon and sews it around the edge of the mat with no overlap. Using π = 3.14, work out how much ribbon is left over after going around the mat once.
- 10.A tangent to a circle with centre O touches the circle at point P, where OP = 5 cm. Point Q lies on the tangent so that PQ = 12 cm. Using the fact that a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact, work out the length OQ.
- 11.A cyclist rides around a perfectly circular track with centre O. At every moment of the ride, the distance from O to the cyclist is exactly the same. Which term names this fixed distance?
- 12.A straight line is drawn from the centre of a circle to a point on the circle. Write down the name of this line.
- 13.A line segment joins two points on the circumference of a circle, without necessarily passing through the centre. Write down the general term for this line segment.
- 14.The curved part of a circle's circumference, between two points on the circle, has its own name. Write down this name.
- 15.A circle is drawn on a page. Write down how many radii can be drawn in the circle.
