- 1.A tangent to a circle touches the circle at exactly one point, P. Work out the size of the angle between the tangent and the radius drawn to P.
- 2.A line segment joins two points on the circumference of a circle, without necessarily passing through the centre. Write down the general term for this line segment.
- 3.A trundle wheel has a diameter of 0.5 m. It is rolled along the ground and makes 20 complete turns. Using π = 3.14, work out the total distance rolled, in metres.
- 4.A circle has centre O. PQ, RS and TU are three chords of the circle, and only one of them passes through O. Write down what this tells you about that chord.
- 5.Every diameter of a circle is an example of a more general type of straight line joining two points on the circle. Which term names that more general type of line?
- 6.A circle has two straight radii drawn from the centre to the edge, together with the arc between them. Write down the name of the region enclosed by these two radii and the arc.
- 7.A diameter divides a circle into two equal halves. Write down the special name given to each of these two halves.
- 8.The curved part of a circle's circumference, between two points on the circle, has its own name. Write down this name.
- 9.A chord divides a circle into two regions, one larger than the other. Write down the term used for the smaller of these two regions.
- 10.A circle has circumference 31.4 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 11.Two points on a circle divide its circumference into two arcs of different lengths. Write down the name given to the shorter of the two arcs.
- 12.In one circle, chord PQ is 6 cm long, chord RS is 10 cm long, chord TU is 14 cm long and chord VW is 15 cm long. Write down which of these chords lies closest to the centre of the circle.
- 13.A chord is drawn across a circle, dividing the circle into two regions. Write down the name of one of these two regions.
- 14.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
- 15.A straight line is drawn from the centre of a circle to a point on the circle. Write down the name of this line.
