- 1.A diameter divides a circle into two equal halves. Write down the special name given to each of these two halves.
- 2.A chord is drawn across a circle, dividing the circle into two regions. Write down the name of one of these two regions.
- 3.In one circle, chord PQ is 6 cm long, chord RS is 10 cm long, chord TU is 14 cm long and chord VW is 15 cm long. Write down which of these chords lies closest to the centre of the circle.
- 4.Two points on a circle divide its circumference into two arcs of different lengths. Write down the name given to the shorter of the two arcs.
- 5.A sector of a circle is bounded by two straight edges and one curved edge. Write down the mathematical term for each of the two straight edges.
- 6.A trundle wheel has a diameter of 0.5 m. It is rolled along the ground and makes 20 complete turns. Using π = 3.14, work out the total distance rolled, in metres.
- 7.A chord divides a circle into two segments of different sizes. Write down the name given to the smaller of the two segments.
- 8.A circle has centre O. PQ, RS and TU are three chords of the circle, and only one of them passes through O. Write down what this tells you about that chord.
- 9.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 10.A circle has diameter 10 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the circumference of the circle.
- 11.A tangent to a circle with centre O touches the circle at point P, where OP = 5 cm. Point Q lies on the tangent so that PQ = 12 cm. Using the fact that a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact, work out the length OQ.
- 12.Every point on a circle is exactly the same distance from one particular point. Write down the name of that point.
- 13.The curved part of a circle's circumference, between two points on the circle, has its own name. Write down this name.
- 14.A circle has a diameter of 4 cm. Work out the radius of the circle.
- 15.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
