- 1.A line segment joins two points on the circumference of a circle, without necessarily passing through the centre. Write down the general term for this line segment.
- 2.A chord divides a circle into two regions, one larger than the other. Write down the term used for the smaller of these two regions.
- 3.A circle has a radius of 3 cm. Work out the diameter of the circle.
- 4.A circle is drawn on a page. Write down how many radii can be drawn in the circle.
- 5.A tangent to a circle with centre O touches the circle at point P, where OP = 5 cm. Point Q lies on the tangent so that PQ = 12 cm. Using the fact that a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact, work out the length OQ.
- 6.A circle has centre O. PQ, RS and TU are three chords of the circle, and only one of them passes through O. Write down what this tells you about that chord.
- 7.A diameter divides a circle into two equal halves. Write down the special name given to each of these two halves.
- 8.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° at the centre. Write down what fraction of the whole circle this sector represents.
- 9.A tangent to a circle touches the circle at exactly one point, P. Work out the size of the angle between the tangent and the radius drawn to P.
- 10.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
- 11.A circular table mat has diameter 20 cm. Yasmin has a 70 cm length of ribbon and sews it around the edge of the mat with no overlap. Using π = 3.14, work out how much ribbon is left over after going around the mat once.
- 12.A straight line is drawn from the centre of a circle to a point on the circle. Write down the name of this line.
- 13.A tangent touches a circle with centre O at the point P. Q is a point on the tangent. Write down the circle fact that tells you the size of angle OPQ.
- 14.A circle has a diameter of 4 cm. Work out the radius of the circle.
- 15.Every point on a circle is exactly the same distance from one particular point. Write down the name of that point.
