- 1.A scale drawing of a park uses a scale of 1 : 2000. A path is drawn 8.5 cm long on the drawing. A cyclist rides the length of the path and then rides straight back again along the same path. How far does the cyclist travel in total, in metres?
- 2.A footpath sign shows a distance of 0.45 km to the next village. Work out this distance in metres.
- 3.A sector has an angle of 45°. Priti says: 'The area of the sector is one eighth of the area of the full circle, whatever the radius is.' Is Priti correct?
- 4.A recipe uses 1.25 kg of flour. Work out how many grams of flour this is.
- 5.A quadrilateral has angles of 100°, 85° and 95° at three of its vertices. Work out the fourth angle.
- 6.A rectangle has vertices A(0, 0), B(6, 0), C(6, 4) and D(0, 4). Work out the length of the diagonal AC. Give your answer correct to 2 decimal places.
- 7.A drone starts at the point (3.5, −2) on a grid measured in metres. It flies by the vector to check a first sensor. The drone then needs to fly in a straight line to reach the point (−1.7, 9) to check a second sensor. Work out the column vector of this second flight.
- 8.A cylinder has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 10 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the volume of the cylinder.
- 9.A shopkeeper builds a display from two cuboid boxes, shown in the diagram. She wants to cover the front of the display with coloured paper. Work out the total area of the front elevation, in square centimetres.
- 10.Triangle JKL and triangle MNP are similar, with JK ÷ MN = JL ÷ MP = 2. A student says triangle JKL must be congruent to triangle MNP. Write down why the student is wrong.
- 11.A round cake has a radius of 10 cm. Icing costs £0.02 per square centimetre. One slice of the cake is a sector with an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the cost of icing the top of that slice, to the nearest penny.
- 12.Write down which quadrant contains the point (−3, 5) when plotted on a coordinate grid.
- 13.A kitchen scale is marked in equal divisions of 20 g. The pointer rests three divisions past the 400 g mark. Work out the reading on the scale.
- 14.In a phone game, a character starts at the point (−5, 2) on a grid. It moves by the vector to collect a coin. The player now wants the character's next single move to finish at the point (3, 0). Write down the column vector of that second move.
- 15.Two straight roads cross at a junction. The angle between them, measured with a protractor, is 118°. What is the size of the angle vertically opposite to it?
