- 1.A cyclist rides around a perfectly circular track with centre O. At every moment of the ride, the distance from O to the cyclist is exactly the same. Which term names this fixed distance?
- 2.A sector of a circle has radius 6 cm and an area of 4.71 cm². Using π = 3.14, work out the angle of the sector.
- 3.A ship sails 12 km on a bearing of 070° from a harbour to a buoy. It then sails a further 9 km, still on a bearing of 070°, from the buoy to a lighthouse. How far is the lighthouse from the harbour, in kilometres?
- 4.A sector of a circle has radius 9 cm and angle 120°. Using π = 3.14, work out the arc length of the sector, to 1 decimal place.
- 5.A composite solid is made from a cylinder of radius 3 cm and height 10 cm, with a cone of the same radius and vertical height 4 cm fixed on top, apex upward. Work out the total volume of the solid. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 6.A crane's hook starts at the point (3.4, 9.5) on a construction site plan measured in metres. It moves along the vector to pick up a beam, then along the vector to place it. Work out the single column vector that describes the hook's overall movement from its start position to where it places the beam.
- 7.A sector of a circle has radius 9 cm and angle 60°. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of the sector, to 1 decimal place.
- 8.A fan-shaped rug is in the shape of a sector of a circle with radius 4 m and angle 180°. It costs £4 per square metre to make. Using π = 3.14, work out the total cost of the rug.
- 9.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 14 cm. One of the other angles is 30°. Work out the exact length of the side opposite the 30° angle.
- 10.A model of a bridge is built to a scale where every length on the model is 1/240 of the matching length on the real bridge. A support beam on the model measures 3.6 cm. Work out the length of the real support beam, giving your answer in metres.
- 11.A rectangular tile measures 4.5 cm by 6 cm. Work out the area of the tile.
- 12.A flagpole is 12 m tall. Freya stands 9 m from the base of the flagpole on level ground. Work out the angle of elevation of the top of the flagpole from where Freya stands. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 13.A shop sells rice in packs of 250 g. Aisha buys 4 packs. Work out the total mass of rice she buys, in kilograms.
- 14.A bus journey takes 2.5 hours. Work out how many minutes this is.
- 15.A circular coin has a diameter of 3 cm. Work out the circumference of the coin. Give your answer in terms of π.
