- 1.A support strut for a shed roof is in the shape of a right-angled triangle. The two shorter sides of the strut are 5 m and 9 m. Work out the length of the sloping strut (the hypotenuse). Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 2.Two angles lie on a straight line. One angle is 37°. Work out the size of the other angle.
- 3.A parallelogram has a base of 9 cm and a perpendicular height of 4 cm. Work out its area.
- 4.A hiker starts by walking on a bearing of 245°. She turns clockwise through 50°, then turns clockwise through a further 15°, and continues walking in a straight line. What bearing is she now walking on?
- 5.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 8 cm, and one of its shorter sides is 4 cm. Work out the size of the angle between that 4 cm side and the hypotenuse.
- 6.A parallelogram has an area of 54 cm² and a base of 9 cm. Work out its perpendicular height.
- 7.A circle has a diameter of 24 cm. A sector of this circle has an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of the sector.
- 8.A line segment is measured with a ruler and found to be 6.5 cm long. What is this length in millimetres?
- 9.In triangle ABC the angle at C is 90°, AC = 8 cm and the angle at A is 30°. Work out the length of BC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 10.A vertical line passes through the point (5, 2). Write down the equation of this line.
- 11.A footpath sign shows a distance of 0.45 km to the next village. Work out this distance in metres.
- 12.A ship's radar shows a lighthouse at the point (12, −4) on a grid measured in nautical miles. The ship is at (2, 5). The ship sails along the vector that takes it directly to the lighthouse, then sails along that same vector again. Work out the ship's final position.
- 13.A hiker walks on a bearing of 065°. She then turns clockwise through 90° and continues walking in a straight line. What bearing is she now walking on?
- 14.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm and one of its other angles is 45°. Work out the length of one of the two shorter sides. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 15.A sector of a circle has radius 15 cm and angle 216°. Using π = 3.14, work out the arc length of the sector.
