- 1.A rectangular garden bed measures 5 m by 3 m. A semicircular flower border is attached along one of the 3 m-wide ends, on the outside of the rectangle, so that the 3 m side is the diameter of the semicircle. Work out the total perimeter of the combined shape (the two long sides, the one remaining short side, and the curved edge). Use π = 3.14.
- 2.A circular coin has a diameter of 3 cm. Work out the circumference of the coin. Give your answer in terms of π.
- 3.A bead starts at position (2, −1) on a grid, in centimetres. It is moved by the column vector u, with top number 3 and bottom number 5, and then moved by the column vector v, with top number −7 and bottom number 2. Work out the coordinates of the bead's final position.
- 4.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm. One of its other angles is 45°. Work out the exact length of one of the two shorter sides.
- 5.A parallelogram has an area of 84 cm² and a base of 12 cm. Work out the perpendicular height of the parallelogram.
- 6.A cake recipe takes 135 minutes from start to finish. Write this time as hours and minutes.
- 7.A line segment joins A(1, 1) and B(4, 7). Write down the sign of the gradient of this line.
- 8.In triangle ABC and triangle DEF, AB = DE, angle ABC = angle DEF and BC = EF. Write down the congruence condition that proves the two triangles are congruent.
- 9.A model of a bridge is built to a scale where every length on the model is 1/240 of the matching length on the real bridge. A support beam on the model measures 3.6 cm. Work out the length of the real support beam, giving your answer in metres.
- 10.Two straight roads cross at a junction. The angle between them, measured with a protractor, is 118°. What is the size of the angle vertically opposite to it?
- 11.A sector of a circle has radius 4 cm and angle 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of the sector.
- 12.A ship sails 12 km on a bearing of 070° from a harbour to a buoy. It then sails a further 9 km, still on a bearing of 070°, from the buoy to a lighthouse. How far is the lighthouse from the harbour, in kilometres?
- 13.A triangular flag has a base of 40 cm and a perpendicular height of 25 cm. Work out its area.
- 14.A sector of a circle has radius 7 cm and angle 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the arc length of the sector, to 1 decimal place.
- 15.Two straight lines PQ and RS cross at point O. Angle POR = 52°. Work out angle QOS.
