- 1.A garden flower bed is in the shape of a trapezium. Its two parallel edges are 3.5 m and 6.5 m long, and the perpendicular distance between them is 4 m. Bedding plants cost £2.50 per square metre to cover the bed. Work out the total cost of the bedding plants.
- 2.Write down the term for the distance all the way around the edge of a circle.
- 3.A map has a scale of 1 : 25000. A distance between two points measures 2 cm on the map. What is the real distance, in kilometres?
- 4.A plumber charges a £45 call-out fee, plus £28 for each hour worked. She works on a job for 3 hours 30 minutes, and her hours are billed by rounding up to the next whole hour. Work out the total amount she charges.
- 5.A circle has two straight radii drawn from the centre to the edge, together with the arc between them. Write down the name of the region enclosed by these two radii and the arc.
- 6.A solid ball has a radius of 7 cm. Work out the surface area of the ball. Use π = 3.14.
- 7.A model car is built to a scale of 1 : 24. The real car is 4.32 m long. Work out the length of the model, in centimetres.
- 8.A trapezium-shaped garden bed has parallel sides of 2.5 m and 4.5 m, and a perpendicular width of 3 m. A gardener wants to know the area of the bed before ordering topsoil. Work out the area of the garden bed.
- 9.A cuboid-shaped shipping crate has a length of 12 m, a width of 5 m, and a volume of 360 m³. Work out the height of the crate, in metres.
- 10.A composite solid is made from a cylinder of radius 3 cm and height 10 cm, with a cone of the same radius and vertical height 4 cm fixed on top, apex upward. Work out the total volume of the solid. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 11.A sector of a circle has radius 7 cm and angle 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the arc length of the sector, to 1 decimal place.
- 12.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 8 cm, and one of its shorter sides is 4 cm. Work out the size of the angle between that 4 cm side and the hypotenuse.
- 13.A circular coaster has a radius of 4 cm. Work out the circumference of the coaster. Give your answer in terms of π.
