- 1.A circular plate has a diameter of 20 cm. Work out the area of the plate. Use π = 3.14.
- 2.A scale drawing of a bridge uses a scale of 1 : 25. A support beam on the drawing measures 4.4 cm. What is the real length of the beam, in metres?
- 3.A pop-up canopy has two sloping supports that meet at the top. Each support makes an angle of 30° with the ground and is 6 m long. Using the exact value of cos 30°, work out the total width of the canopy's base.
- 4.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
- 5.Three angles lie on a straight line. They measure 38°, 95° and x°. Work out the value of x.
- 6.In a right-angled triangle, θ is one of the acute angles. Write down the trigonometric ratio, in terms of the opposite and adjacent sides, that is used to find θ.
- 7.A polygon has one more side than a heptagon. What is the polygon called?
- 8.A written description of a diagram states: 'AB is marked with a single arrow, CD is marked with a single arrow, and EF is marked with a double arrow.' Using the standard convention for marking parallel lines, what can be concluded?
- 9.A chord divides a circle into two segments of different sizes. Write down the name given to the smaller of the two segments.
- 10.A ship's radar shows a lighthouse at the point (12, −4) on a grid measured in nautical miles. The ship is at (2, 5). The ship sails along the vector that takes it directly to the lighthouse, then sails along that same vector again. Work out the ship's final position.
- 11.A solid has 6 faces and 8 vertices. Using the formula F + V − E = 2, work out how many edges it has.
- 12.Two angles lie on a straight line. One angle is 118°. Which reason correctly explains why the other angle is 62°?
- 13.Work out the distance between the points (−3, 4) and (5, −2).
- 14.A hiker walks due west. What is the three-figure bearing for this direction?
- 15.Triangle ABC is right-angled at B. Triangle DEF is right-angled at E. AB = DE = 6 cm and AC = DF = 10 cm (AC and DF are the hypotenuses of their triangles). A student says this is not enough information to prove the triangles are congruent, because only two sides are given. Which reason shows the student is wrong?
