- 1.Work out the exact value of tan 30° + tan 30°.
- 2.u is the column vector with top number 5 and bottom number 1. v is the column vector with top number 2 and bottom number 4. Work out u − v, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 3.To construct a perpendicular to a line at a given point P on the line, compasses are first opened to draw two arcs crossing the line, one on each side of P. What is the correct next step?
- 4.A conservatory has a roof panel shaped like a regular octagon. Work out the interior angle of the octagon, then use it to work out the size of the reflex angle at the same vertex, on the outside of the roof panel.
- 5.Two sides of a triangle are 20 cm and 8 cm long. Write down which one of these lengths is possible for the third side.
- 6.A circle has centre O. Radii OA and OB are drawn, together with the arc AB, enclosing a sector. The straight chord AB is also drawn. Write down the name of the region enclosed between the chord AB and the arc AB.
- 7.A surveyor is marking out field ABCD for a new crop. The plan states that side AB is parallel to side DC, but AB and DC are not equal in length, and sides BC and AD are not parallel to each other. Which term correctly describes the shape of field ABCD?
- 8.A written description of a diagram states: 'AB is marked with a single arrow, CD is marked with a single arrow, and EF is marked with a double arrow.' Using the standard convention for marking parallel lines, what can be concluded?
- 9.A packaging designer is told a box has 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices, and every face is a rectangle. To fit exactly onto a shelf, the designer needs to know whether the box must be a cube. Based only on this information, which solid must the box be?
- 10.Triangle DEF has a right angle at E. Angle DFE = 60° and EF = 9 cm. Work out the exact length of DE.
- 11.A solid has two parallel, congruent polygon faces joined by flat rectangles, and its cross-section is the same shape all the way along its length. Which solid is it?
- 12.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 13.Triangle ABC has AB = 5 cm, BC = 7 cm and CA = 9 cm. Triangle DEF has DE = 5 cm, EF = 7 cm and FD = 9 cm. Which condition proves the two triangles are congruent?
- 14.Triangle ABC has AB = 9 cm, BC = 6 cm and angle A = 35°. Triangle DEF has DE = 9 cm, EF = 6 cm and angle D = 35°. Which of the following correctly identifies the condition shown here?
- 15.The diagram shows the plan of the base layer of a solid built from identical cubes. A second layer of cubes is added on top, filling the entire base layer to a height of 2 cubes everywhere. Work out how many squares are visible in the plan view of this solid.
