- 1.The cross-section of a tent is an isosceles triangle. The angle at the top, between the two equal sloping sides, is 62°. The other two angles are equal to each other. Work out the size of each of those two angles.
- 2.A designer creates a repeating tile pattern. Each tile is translated from the one before it by the column vector with top number 4.5 and bottom number −2.5 (in centimetres). The first tile has its bottom-left corner at (1.5, 3). Work out the coordinates of the bottom-left corner of the third tile.
- 3.Two similar triangles have lengths in the ratio 3 : 4. The perimeter of the smaller triangle is 24 cm. Work out the perimeter of the larger triangle.
- 4.A square tile has sides of length 4.5 cm. Work out the perimeter of the tile.
- 5.The diagram shows a solid built from identical cubes. How many squares are in its plan view, the view looking straight down from above?
- 6.A tent is shaped like a triangular prism: two triangular end faces and three rectangular faces. One of the rectangular faces lies flat on the ground as the groundsheet. How many of the tent's faces are above the ground, not touching the ground?
- 7.A solid has 6 faces and 8 vertices. Using the formula F + V − E = 2, work out how many edges it has.
- 8.All four sides of a rhombus are the same length. One side of a rhombus is 7 cm long. Work out the perimeter of the rhombus.
- 9.A bearing is described as being exactly halfway between north and east, measured clockwise. What is the three-figure bearing?
- 10.The sum of the interior angles of a polygon is 1980°. Work out the number of sides of the polygon.
- 11.A circle has circumference 31.4 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 12.A roof truss has two horizontal parallel rafters, one above the other. A straight strut crosses both rafters. Where the strut crosses the lower rafter, the angle above the rafter and to the left of the strut is 65°. Work out the size of the angle above the upper rafter and to the right of the strut, where the strut crosses it.
- 13.A drone starts at the point (3.5, −2) on a grid measured in metres. It flies by the vector to check a first sensor. The drone then needs to fly in a straight line to reach the point (−1.7, 9) to check a second sensor. Work out the column vector of this second flight.
- 14.Triangle JKL has a right angle at K, hypotenuse JL = 13 cm, and side JK = 5 cm. Triangle MNO has a right angle at N, hypotenuse MO = 13 cm, and side MN = 5 cm. Using only the facts given, and without working out any further lengths, write down the congruence condition that proves triangle JKL is congruent to triangle MNO.
- 15.Two similar hexagonal tiles have lengths in the ratio 4 : 7. A side of the smaller tile is 8.4 cm long. Work out the length of the corresponding side of the larger tile.
