- 1.Triangle T has a vertex at (2, 1). It is enlarged by a scale factor of 3, centre (0, 0). Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
- 2.A carpenter cuts two triangular metal brackets for a shelf. Bracket P has sides of 12 cm, 16 cm and 20 cm. Bracket Q has sides of 16 cm, 20 cm and 12 cm, listed in a different order. Before fitting them as a matching pair, the carpenter wants to check they are exactly the same shape and size. Which of the following correctly justifies this?
- 3.P is the point (3, 4) and Q is the point (6, 0). Work out the distance of each point from the origin, and write down which point is closer to the origin.
- 4.A straight transversal crosses a pair of parallel lines. At one crossing point, the angle between the transversal and a parallel line is 118°. Work out the size of the co-interior (allied) angle at the other crossing point.
- 5.A regular nonagon has 9 sides. Work out the sum of its interior angles.
- 6.Three angles meet at a single point on one side of a straight line. Two of the angles are 48° and 65°. Work out the third angle.
- 7.Triangle ABC has AB = 6 cm and BC = 9 cm, with angle A = 40°. Triangle DEF has DE = 6 cm and EF = 9 cm, with angle D = 40°. Meera says these facts prove the triangles are congruent by SAS. Is Meera correct?
- 8.The point A(3, 2) is translated by the vector (−5, 4) to give point B. Work out the coordinates of B.
- 9.Write down the exact value of cos 45°.
- 10.A cheese counter sells cheddar at £8.40 per kilogram. Work out the cost of a 350 g piece of cheddar.
- 11.Work out the gradient of the line segment joining A(2, 3) and B(6, 11).
- 12.Work out the distance between the point (0, 0) and the point (5, 12).
- 13.The angle between north and a footpath is 35°, measured clockwise from north. What is the three-figure bearing of the footpath?
- 14.Point C is at (2, 3). It is rotated 90° clockwise about the origin. Work out the coordinates of the image of point C.
- 15.A trundle wheel has a diameter of 0.5 m. It is rolled along the ground and makes 20 complete turns. Using π = 3.14, work out the total distance rolled, in metres.
