- 1.A rectangular photograph has an area of 96 cm². One of its sides is 8 cm long. Work out the length of the other side.
- 2.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 3.The point (5, −2) is reflected in the x-axis. Work out the coordinates of the image point.
- 4.A roof truss is shaped like an isosceles triangle resting on a horizontal ceiling joist. The truss's sloping edges are equal in length, and the angle at its apex is 40°. The ceiling joist continues in a straight line beyond the foot of the truss. Work out the angle between the truss's sloping edge and the extended joist, on the outside of the truss.
- 5.A cheese counter sells cheddar at £8.40 per kilogram. Work out the cost of a 350 g piece of cheddar.
- 6.The diagram shows a solid made from two cuboids joined together. Which shape is the front elevation of this solid?
- 7.p is the column vector with top number 2 and bottom number 3. q is the column vector with top number −1 and bottom number 4. Work out 2p + q, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 8.In quadrilateral ABCD, side AB is parallel to side DC. Which statement correctly uses geometric notation to show this?
- 9.A crane's hook starts at the point (3.4, 9.5) on a construction site plan measured in metres. It moves along the vector to pick up a beam, then along the vector to place it. Work out the single column vector that describes the hook's overall movement from its start position to where it places the beam.
- 10.In geometry, which of the following best describes a 'plane'?
- 11.A scale drawing of a park uses a scale of 1 : 2000. A path is drawn 8.5 cm long on the drawing. A cyclist rides the length of the path and then rides straight back again along the same path. How far does the cyclist travel in total, in metres?
- 12.A tangent touches a circle with centre O at the point P. Q is a point on the tangent. Write down the circle fact that tells you the size of angle OPQ.
- 13.A regular polygon has 12 sides. Work out the size of one exterior angle of the polygon.
- 14.A jug holds 750 ml of water. Work out what fraction of a litre this is.
- 15.A quadrilateral has all four sides equal in length and all four interior angles equal to 90°. Its diagonals are equal in length and bisect each other at right angles. Which quadrilateral matches this description exactly?
