- 2.A circular plate has a diameter of 20 cm. Work out the area of the plate. Use π = 3.14.
- 3.A straight line crosses a pair of parallel lines. One of the co-interior (allied) angles is 118°. Work out the size of the other co-interior angle.
- 4.A rectangle has vertices A(1, 1), B(4, 1), C(4, 5) and D(1, 5). Work out the perimeter of the rectangle.
- 5.A cable supporting a flagpole is anchored to the ground 5 m from the base of the pole. The cable makes an angle of 60° with the ground. Using the exact value of tan 60°, work out the exact height of the flagpole.
- 6.Triangle ABC has AB = 9 cm, BC = 6 cm and angle A = 35°. Triangle DEF has DE = 9 cm, EF = 6 cm and angle D = 35°. Which of the following correctly identifies the condition shown here?
- 7.A scale drawing of a rectangular lawn uses a scale of 1 : 125. On the drawing, the lawn measures 4 cm by 2.4 cm. Work out the perimeter of the real lawn, in metres.
- 8.A ship sails 12 km on a bearing of 070° from a harbour to a buoy. It then sails a further 9 km, still on a bearing of 070°, from the buoy to a lighthouse. How far is the lighthouse from the harbour, in kilometres?
- 9.A right-angled triangle has two sides of length 5 cm and 12 cm, and the angle between those two sides is 90°. Work out the length of the hypotenuse.
- 10.A straight line is drawn from the centre of a circle to a point on the circle. Write down the name of this line.
- 11.A perpendicular bisector is drawn through the midpoint of a line segment AB. Which set of points does this construction show?
- 12.A bearing is described as being exactly halfway between north and east, measured clockwise. What is the three-figure bearing?
- 13.Write down the column vector that describes a translation of 4 units to the right and 4 units up.
- 14.a is the column vector with top number 3 and bottom number −2. b is the column vector with top number −1 and bottom number 5. Work out 2a + b, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 15.A ramp is built from two straight metal supports that rest on the flat ground and meet each other at the top, forming a triangle with the ground. One support meets the ground at 34°. The angle between the two supports where they meet is 71°. Work out the angle between the second support and the ground.
