- 1.A construction for the perpendicular bisector of AB begins by opening a pair of compasses to more than half the length of AB, then drawing an arc centred at A. What is the next step?
- 2.Every point on a circle is exactly the same distance from one particular point. Write down the name of that point.
- 3.In triangle ABC, point D lies on side AB and point E lies on side AC, so that DE is parallel to BC. AD = 3 cm, DB = 6 cm and DE = 4 cm. Work out the length of BC.
- 4.A drone starts at the point (3.5, −2) on a grid measured in metres. It flies by the vector to check a first sensor. The drone then needs to fly in a straight line to reach the point (−1.7, 9) to check a second sensor. Work out the column vector of this second flight.
- 5.In triangle ABC the angle at A and the angle at C are equal. The side AB is extended beyond B, and the exterior angle formed at B measures 98°. Work out the size of the angle at A.
- 6.A regular polygon has 5 lines of symmetry. What is the order of rotational symmetry of this polygon?
- 7.A kite string makes an angle of 30° with the ground. The kite is flying at a height of 6 m directly above a point on the ground. Using the exact value of sin 30°, work out the exact length of the kite string.
- 8.A plumber charges a £45 call-out fee, plus £28 for each hour worked. She works on a job for 3 hours 30 minutes, and her hours are billed by rounding up to the next whole hour. Work out the total amount she charges.
- 9.A textbook contains the instruction 'Draw AB' and, on the next line, the statement 'AB = 5 cm'. Which statement about the notation AB is correct?
- 10.A solid is built from five centimetre cubes, standing side by side on a table in a single straight row. Looking down from directly above (the plan view), how many squares are visible?
- 11.A locus is described as the set of points exactly 4 cm from a fixed point O. What shape is this locus?
- 12.Triangle ABC has AB = 9 cm, BC = 6 cm and angle A = 35°. Triangle DEF has DE = 9 cm, EF = 6 cm and angle D = 35°. Which of the following correctly identifies the condition shown here?
- 13.A shape is made by joining two rectangles edge to edge, with no overlap. One rectangle measures 12 cm by 4 cm and the other measures 4 cm by 8 cm. Work out the total area of the shape.
- 14.Three angles meet at a single point on one side of a straight line. Two of the angles are 48° and 65°. Work out the third angle.
- 15.Two points on a circle divide its circumference into two arcs of different lengths. Write down the name given to the shorter of the two arcs.
