- 1.A line segment joins two points on the circumference of a circle, without necessarily passing through the centre. Write down the general term for this line segment.
- 2.A right-angled triangle has its two shorter sides equal to 8 cm and 15 cm. Work out the value of cos θ, where θ is the angle opposite the 8 cm side. Give your answer as a fraction.
- 3.Two metal window frames are checked before installation. Frame A has edges of 40 cm and 65 cm, with a marked angle of 35° at the far end of the 65 cm edge, away from where the two given edges meet. Frame B has matching edges of 40 cm and 65 cm, with a matching 35° angle in the same position. The fitter wants to know if these measurements alone guarantee the two frames are congruent. What should the fitter be told?
- 4.Two straight lines cross at a point. Which statement about a pair of vertically opposite angles is always true?
- 5.The point A(3, 2) is translated by the vector (−5, 4) to give point B. Work out the coordinates of B.
- 6.A solid has 6 faces and 8 vertices. Using the formula F + V − E = 2, work out how many edges it has.
- 7.A circle has a radius of 3 cm. Work out the diameter of the circle.
- 8.A wooden cube has edges of length 4 cm. Work out the total surface area of the cube.
- 9.Triangle ABC has AB = 10 cm, BC = 7 cm and angle A = 40°. Triangle DEF has DE = 10 cm, EF = 7 cm and angle D = 40°. Sam says the two triangles are congruent by SAS. Which statement about Sam's claim is correct?
- 10.Work out the exact value of tan 30° + tan 30°.
- 11.A straight line passes through points A, B and C, with B between A and C. A fourth point D is not on the line. Angle ABD = 132°. Work out the size of angle DBC.
- 12.The curved part of a circle's circumference, between two points on the circle, has its own name. Write down this name.
- 13.A rectangular garden gate is 3 m wide and 4 m high. A straight brace runs from one corner of the gate to the opposite corner. Work out the length of the brace.
- 14.Two similar triangles have lengths in the ratio 2 : 5. The sides of the smaller triangle are 4 cm, 6 cm and 8 cm. Work out the length of the longest side of the larger triangle.
- 15.A solid has 5 faces, 9 edges and 6 vertices. Two of its faces are triangles and the other three are rectangles. Which solid is it?
