- 1.A crane's hook starts at the point (3.4, 9.5) on a construction site plan measured in metres. It moves along the vector to pick up a beam, then along the vector to place it. Work out the single column vector that describes the hook's overall movement from its start position to where it places the beam.
- 2.A line segment is measured with a ruler and found to be 6.5 cm long. What is this length in millimetres?
- 3.A builder lays a low wall made from identical bricks. The diagram shows the plan of the wall's footprint on a grid, where each square is one brick. The wall is built up to a height of 4 bricks everywhere. Work out the total number of bricks used.
- 4.The diagram shows a solid resting on its side on a table. Work out which shape is its plan view, the view looking straight down from above.
- 5.A carpenter cuts two triangular metal brackets for a shelf. Bracket P has sides of 12 cm, 16 cm and 20 cm. Bracket Q has sides of 16 cm, 20 cm and 12 cm, listed in a different order. Before fitting them as a matching pair, the carpenter wants to check they are exactly the same shape and size. Which of the following correctly justifies this?
- 6.Point C is at (2, 3). It is rotated 90° clockwise about the origin. Work out the coordinates of the image of point C.
- 7.A scale model of a bridge is built so that 2 cm on the model represents 5 m of the real bridge. The real bridge is 45 m long. Work out the length of the model bridge, in centimetres.
- 8.A square tile has sides of length 6 cm. Work out the area of the tile.
- 9.Point E is at (4, 2). It is rotated 180° about the point (1, 1). Work out the coordinates of the image of point E.
- 10.Triangle ABC has a right angle at B. Triangle DEF has a right angle at E. The hypotenuse of triangle ABC equals the hypotenuse of triangle DEF, and side AB equals side DE. Which condition proves that the two triangles are congruent?
- 11.A triangular prism has two triangular faces and three rectangular faces. How many vertices does a triangular prism have?
- 12.A straight line crosses two parallel lines. One of the angles formed is (2x + 10)°, and the angle alternate to it is 74°. Work out the value of x.
- 13.A cube has all of its edges the same length. How many planes of symmetry does it have?
- 14.A path goes from A(1, 1) to B(1, 5), then from B to C(6, 5). Work out the total length of the path from A to C.
- 15.Work out the y-coordinate of the midpoint of the line segment joining (2, 4) and (8, 10).
