1.A garden has flowers, herbs and vegetables in the ratio 2 : 3 : 4. What fraction of the garden is not vegetables?

2.In a box of chocolates 5/8 are milk chocolates and the rest are dark chocolates. Work out the number of dark chocolates as a fraction of the number of milk chocolates.

3.A bag holds 50 counters. 2/5 of them are red and the rest are blue. 5 red counters are then taken out of the bag. Work out the new ratio of red counters to blue counters. Give your answer in its simplest form.

4.In a fruit basket the ratio of bananas to oranges is 2 : 5. What fraction of the fruit are oranges?

5.£60 is shared between Amir, Bo and Chen in the ratio 1:2:3. Work out the fraction of the £60 that Amir and Bo receive together.

6.Two allotments are combined. Allotment A grows vegetables and flowers in the ratio 3 : 2, and has 20 plots in total. Allotment B grows vegetables and flowers in the ratio 1 : 4, and has 20 plots in total. Work out the fraction of all the plots, in both allotments combined, that grow vegetables.

7.Two bags of mixed nuts are combined. Bag A has peanuts and cashews in the ratio 2 : 3. Bag B has peanuts and cashews in the ratio 1 : 4. Both bags contain the same total number of nuts. Work out the fraction of the combined mixture that is peanuts.

8.In a choir, 2/9 of the members are boys and the rest are girls. Write down the ratio of girls to boys, in its simplest form.

9.Nadia has £84. She spends 3/7 of it on a jacket and the rest on a bag. Work out the ratio of the amount spent on the jacket to the amount spent on the bag, in its simplest form.

10.A paint mix is made from white paint and blue paint in the ratio 5 : 3. Priya uses 1.2 litres of blue paint and the matching amount of white paint. Work out the total volume of the mix.

11.At a swimming pool the ratio of adults to children is 3 : 5. Of the children, 2/5 are boys. What fraction of the people at the pool are boys?

12.An allotment is divided into two plots in the ratio 2:3. The larger plot has an area of 18 m². Work out the fraction of the total area taken up by the smaller plot.

13.A necklace is made from red beads and gold beads in the ratio 7 : 3. What fraction of the beads are gold?

14.A fruit bowl contains apples, pears and plums in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5. What fraction of the fruit are not plums?

15.A charity raises money from a raffle and a cake sale in the ratio 5 : 3. Altogether the charity raises £320. Work out how much money the cake sale raised.
