- 1.A lorry travels 105 miles in 1 hour 45 minutes. Work out its average speed in miles per hour.
- 2.Petrol costs £1.48 per litre. Sam buys 35 litres and pays with three £20 notes. Work out his change.
- 3.A piece of ribbon is 2.4 metres long. Kim cuts 40 cm from it. Work out the length of ribbon left, in millimetres.
- 4.A jug holds 1.8 litres of juice. Priya pours out 3/4 of a litre to fill a glass. Work out how much juice is left in the jug, in millilitres.
- 5.Maya buys 4 plants at £3.20 each and a bag of compost for £6.75. She pays with a £20 note. Work out her change.
- 6.Rice is sold in a 400 g bag for £1.12 and in a 1.5 kg bag for £3.90. Work out how much less the rice in the larger bag costs per kilogram.
- 7.A plumber charges a call-out fee of £45 and then £28 for each hour she works. She is at a house from 09:15 until 12:45. Work out the total charge.
- 8.A train leaves Leeds at 14:35. The journey takes 1 hour 50 minutes. Work out the time the train arrives. Give your answer using the 24-hour clock.
- 9.A tin of beans has a mass of 650 g. A bag of rice has a mass of 1.35 kg. Work out the total mass, in kilograms.
- 10.A cyclist rides at a steady speed of 8 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 11.A cheetah runs at a steady speed of 25 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 12.Bella's electricity supplier charges 28.5p per unit (kWh). Last month she used 340 units. Work out the total cost, giving your answer in pounds.
- 13.A flight departs at 21:35 and lands at 06:10 the following morning. Work out the total flight time.
- 14.A tin of soup has a mass of 450 g. A bag of potatoes has a mass of 2.6 kg. Work out the total mass, in kilograms.
- 15.A market trader buys 8 melons at £1.35 each. He sells all of them for a total of £15.60. Work out his profit.
