- 1.A spinner can land on red, blue, green or yellow, and it cannot land on more than one colour. The probability that it lands on red is 0.05 and the probability that it lands on yellow is 0.35. The probability that it lands on blue is twice the probability that it lands on green. Work out the probability that it lands on green.
- 2.A garden centre tests 250 packets of seeds for germination, recording the results on a frequency tree. 68% of the 250 packets germinated successfully, and the rest did not. Work out how many packets germinated successfully.
- 3.A fair spinner has 8 equal sections. 3 of the sections are red. The spinner is spun 240 times. Work out how many times you would expect it to land on red.
- 4.Two ordinary fair dice are rolled, one after the other. Work out the probability that the first dice shows a 6 and the second dice shows an even number.
- 5.Two ordinary fair dice are rolled. Work out the probability that the difference between the two scores is 1.
- 6.The numbers 1 to 10 are each written on a card. Set A is the set of multiples of 3 from 1 to 10 and set B is the set of even numbers from 1 to 10. Work out how many of the numbers from 1 to 10 are in set A but not in set B.
- 7.Two ordinary fair dice are rolled and the two scores are added together. Work out the probability that the total is a prime number.
- 8.A market stall sells umbrellas. Over the last 250 days, it rained on 70 of them. Using this as an estimate of the probability of rain, work out how many rainy days would be expected in the next 365 days.
- 9.A spinner lands on red, on blue or on green, and it cannot land on more than one colour at a time. The probability that it lands on red is 0.3 and the probability that it lands on blue is 0.5. Work out the probability that it lands on red or on blue.
- 10.In a class experiment a fair six-sided dice is rolled 60 times and lands on a six 14 times. The whole school then rolls the same fair dice 3000 times. Work out the best estimate of the number of sixes the school should expect.
- 11.The probability that a seed fails to germinate is 1/5. Three seeds are planted independently. Work out the probability that at least one of the three seeds germinates.
- 12.Spinner A has 4 equal sections, numbered 1, 2, 3 and 4. Spinner B has 5 equal sections, numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Both spinners are spun once, and the two numbers are multiplied together. Work out the probability that the product is 12.
- 13.A tree diagram shows two rounds of a game, played independently. On each round, the probability of losing is 0.7 and the probability of winning is 0.3. Work out the probability of losing both rounds.
- 14.One card is taken at random from an ordinary pack of 52 playing cards. 26 of the cards are red. Work out the probability that the card is red. Give your answer as a percentage.
- 15.Harry plays a game in which he flips a fair coin and rolls an ordinary fair dice. He wins a prize only if the coin shows heads and the dice shows a 6. Work out the probability that Harry wins a prize.
