- 1.Two mathematically similar triangular flags have areas in the ratio 4 : 25. The height of the smaller flag is 6 cm. Work out the height of the larger flag.
- 2.Noah runs 2 km in 10 minutes. Work out how long he takes to run 5 km at the same speed.
- 3.Two mathematically similar jugs have heights 8 cm and 12 cm. The smaller jug holds 200 ml when it is full. Work out how much the larger jug holds when it is full.
- 4.Two mathematically similar water bottles have a volume scale factor of 8 from the smaller bottle to the larger bottle. Work out the surface area scale factor from the smaller bottle to the larger bottle.
- 5.3 kg of apples cost £6. Work out the cost of 5 kg of the same apples.
- 6.A recipe for pancakes uses 240 g of flour to make pancakes for 6 people. Work out how many grams of flour are needed to make pancakes for 15 people, using the same recipe.
- 7.Write 3 hours 45 minutes as a decimal number of hours.
- 8.A car travels for 3 hours at an average speed of 80 km/h and then for 1 hour at an average speed of 40 km/h. Work out the average speed for the whole journey.
- 9.A recipe for 8 people needs 320 g of rice. Sanjay scales the recipe down to serve 5 people, then wants to scale his new amount back up to serve 8 people again. Work out the multiplier he should use to scale his amount for 5 people back up to the amount for 8 people.
- 10.Two numbers are in the ratio 2 : 3. The smaller number is 8. Work out the larger number.
- 11.y is directly proportional to x, so y = kx. When x = 2, the value of y is 10. Work out the value of k.
- 12.A car travels 150 km in 3 hours at a constant speed. Work out the average speed of the car, in km/h.
- 13.Divide 84 in the ratio 3:4. Work out the smaller share.
- 14.A box contains 12 red counters and 18 blue counters. Write the number of red counters as a fraction of the number of blue counters. Give your answer in its simplest form.
- 15.A sunflower is 140 cm tall. A tomato plant is 80 cm tall. Write the height of the tomato plant as a fraction of the height of the sunflower, giving your answer in its simplest form.
