- 1.Work out how many seconds there are in 3 minutes and 20 seconds.
- 2.A glass holds 250 ml of squash. Work out how many of these glasses are needed to fill a 1 litre bottle.
- 3.A post 2 metres tall casts a shadow 3 metres long. At the same time a nearby tree casts a shadow 12 metres long. Work out the height of the tree.
- 4.Write the ratio 2 : 1/4 as a ratio of whole numbers in its simplest form.
- 5.A straight-line graph shows the cost, C pounds, of buying n litres of paint. The line passes through the origin and through the point (5, 40). Work out the gradient of the line.
- 6.£5000 is invested in an account paying 4% compound interest each year. Work out the total interest earned after 3 years.
- 7.The number of calories burned, E, by a runner is plotted against the time, m minutes, on a straight-line graph. The line passes through the origin and the point (10, 80). Work out the gradient of the line.
- 8.Two mathematically similar cubes have edge lengths 2 cm and 6 cm. Write the ratio of the volume of the smaller cube to the volume of the larger cube in its simplest form.
- 9.A shop sells fruit juice concentrate that must be diluted with water in the ratio 2 : 5 (concentrate : water) to make squash. Priya has 8 litres of concentrate. Work out how much water she needs to keep the same ratio.
- 10.Two straight-line graphs represent y = 2x and y = 5x. For the same value of x, where x ≠ 0, write down the ratio of the y-value on the first graph to the y-value on the second graph, in its simplest form.y = 2xy = 5x
- 11.5 tins of soup cost £8 in total. Work out the multiplier that changes the number of tins into the total cost in pounds.
- 12.A plan is drawn to a scale of 1 : 25. A real fence is 10 m long. Work out the length of the fence on the plan, in centimetres.
- 13.Write the ratio 20 : 30 in its simplest form.
- 14.A car travels 150 km in 3 hours at a constant speed. Work out the average speed of the car, in km/h.
- 15.A 5 kg bag of potatoes costs £4.50. Work out the cost per kilogram.
