- 1.A graph shows two quantities, x and y, in direct proportion. Write down which statement about the graph must be true.
- 2.A market stall sells apples at a fixed price per kilogram. Priya buys 3 kg for £5.40. Write the ratio of the mass in kilograms to the cost in pounds, in its simplest form.
- 3.The price of a games console is reduced by 10%. In a later sale the reduced price is reduced by 10% again. Work out the overall percentage decrease.
- 4.y is directly proportional to x, so y = kx. When x = 2, the value of y is 10. Work out the value of k.
- 5.y is directly proportional to x. When x = 7, the value of y is 21. Work out the value of x when y = 12.
- 6.The number of biscuits, b, that each guest at a party receives is inversely proportional to the number of guests, g. Which equation could show this relationship?
- 7.A shade of paint is made by mixing blue paint and white paint. To make 5 litres of the shade, 2 litres of blue paint is used and the rest is white paint. Write the ratio of blue paint to white paint in its simplest form.
- 8.In a class, 50% of the students study French, 30% study Spanish and the rest study German. Write down the ratio of French : Spanish : German students, in its simplest form.
- 9.A sunflower is 140 cm tall. A tomato plant is 80 cm tall. Write the height of the tomato plant as a fraction of the height of the sunflower, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 10.1 metre = 100 cm. Work out how many square centimetres there are in 1 square metre.
- 11.A journey takes 4 hours at an average speed of 60 km/h. The time taken is inversely proportional to the average speed. Work out how long the same journey takes at an average speed of 80 km/h.
- 12.y is inversely proportional to x. When x = 5, y = 8. Work out the value of y when x = 10.
- 13.A parcel has a mass of 2400 g. Given that 1 kg = 1000 g, work out the mass of the parcel in kilograms.
- 14.A company's profit this year is 130% of last year's profit. Last year's profit was £40,000. Work out this year's profit.
- 15.A cookery class lasts 45 minutes. A double lesson at school lasts 2 hours. Write the length of the cookery class as a fraction of the length of the double lesson. Give your answer in its simplest form.
