- 1.An arithmetic sequence has first term 40 and common difference −6. Work out the 9th term of the sequence.
- 2.A scout leader is 44 years old and one of the scouts is 16 years old. Work out how many years it will be until the leader is exactly twice as old as the scout.
- 3.Expand and simplify (x − 3)²
- 4.Solve 2x² − 7x + 3 = 0.
- 5.Solve x² − 100 = 0.
- 6.Line C passes through (0, 0) and (4, 2). Line D passes through (0, 0) and (2, 2). Write down which of the two lines is the steeper.

- 8.A rectangular sheep pen has perimeter P, length l and width w, connected by the formula P = 2l + 2w. A farmer has 60 m of fencing for the perimeter and sets the width at 8 m. Work out the length of the pen.
- 9.The first four terms of a sequence are 9, 14, 19, 24. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the nth term.
- 10.Write down the expression that means 5 more than half of n.
- 11.The graph of y = f(x) has a root (an x-intercept) at x = 5. Work out the x-coordinate of the corresponding root on the graph of y = f(x + 2).
- 12.The graph of y = cos x is transformed onto the graph of y = cos(x − 90°). State the direction of the translation and which standard graph the image is.y = cos(x)
- 13.Work out the value of 3a − 2b when a = 5 and b = 4
- 14.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 8. Work out the radius of the circle, giving your answer as a surd in its simplest form.
- 15.Work out the values of x and y that satisfy both x + y = 10 and x − y = 4.
