- 1.A square patio of side length n slabs is surrounded by a single border of square paving slabs of the same size. For a patio with side length n, the total number of slabs used for the patio and its border together is 9 when n = 1, 16 when n = 2, 25 when n = 3, and 36 when n = 4. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the total number of slabs.
- 2.By completing the square, find the turning point of the curve y = x² − 10x + 30.y = x² − 10x + 30
- 3.An exponential model has equation y = A × bˣ, where b > 1. Its graph passes through the points (1, 135) and (2, 405). Work out the value of A.
- 4.Factorise fully 12x² + 18x.
- 5.A graph has equation y = −2x² + 5. Which statement about its shape is correct?y = -2x² + 5
- 6.A geometric sequence has first term 4 and common ratio √2. Work out the sum of the first three terms of the sequence, giving your answer in the form a + b√2.
- 7.Line C passes through (0, 0) and (4, 2). Line D passes through (0, 0) and (2, 2). Write down which of the two lines is the steeper.
- 8.A sequence begins at 60, and each term after that is found by subtracting 7 from the term before it. Work out the 5th term of the sequence.
- 9.Work out the value of 3x² − 4x when x = −2.
- 10.A scout leader is 44 years old and one of the scouts is 16 years old. Work out how many years it will be until the leader is exactly twice as old as the scout.
- 11.Solve the inequality 3x + 6 ≤ 0.
- 12.A point has coordinates (x, y), where x + y = 0 and x is not 0. In which two quadrants could this point lie?
- 13.a = 2 and b = 5. Work out the value of a²b.
- 14.Three vertices of a rectangle are (−4, −1), (2, −1) and (2, 3). The sides of the rectangle are parallel to the axes. Write down the coordinates of the fourth vertex.
- 15.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = 1, 2, 3, 4 and the matching outputs are y = −5, −3, −1 and one missing value. Work out the missing value of y.
