- 1.Which of these rules generates the sequence 6, 11, 16, 21, …?
- 2.A garden path runs along the line 4x + y = 12. A drainage pipe must be laid perpendicular to the path, passing through the point (3, 1) where a sprinkler sits. Work out the equation of the pipe's line, giving your answer in the form y = mx + c.
- 3.Solve 4x² − 9 = 0.
- 4.A rectangle has length (2x + 5) cm and width (x − 2) cm. Work out an expression, in terms of x, for the perimeter of the rectangle. Give your answer in its simplest form.
- 5.The point (3, 4) lies on the circle x² + y² = 25, which has centre (0, 0). Work out the gradient of the tangent to the circle at (3, 4).
- 6.A theatre's front row has 18 seats. Each row behind has 4 more seats than the row in front. Which row has exactly 62 seats?
- 7.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation 2x + y = 8.
- 8.Solve the simultaneous equations 4x + 3y = 25 and 4x − y = 1. Work out the value of y.
- 9.A circle has centre (0, 0) and passes through the point (12, 35). Work out the equation of the circle.
- 10.Work out the coordinates of the reflection of (6, −3) in the y-axis.
- 11.Harry will spend at most £150 on a party. The cake costs £60 and each helium balloon costs £3. Solve an inequality to find all the possible numbers of balloons, x, that he can buy.
- 12.A number machine multiplies its input by 3 and then adds 7. The output is 1. Work out the input.
- 13.The line y = 3x + 6 meets the x-axis at one point. Work out the coordinates of that point.y = 3x + 6
- 14.A circle has centre (0, 0) and passes through the point (5, 12). Work out the equation of the circle.
- 15.A proof that (n + 3)² − (n − 3)² is always a multiple of a certain number begins: Line 1: (n + 3)² − (n − 3)² = (n² + 6n + 9) − (n² − 6n + 9). Which expression correctly completes Line 2?
