- 1.A car is decelerating. The tangent to its velocity-time graph at t = 12 seconds passes through the points (8, 22) and (16, 6), where velocity is in m/s and time is in seconds. Work out the gradient of this tangent, in m/s².
- 2.Expand and simplify (x + 1)(x + 2)(x + 3).
- 3.A garden path runs along the line 4x + y = 12. A drainage pipe must be laid perpendicular to the path, passing through the point (3, 1) where a sprinkler sits. Work out the equation of the pipe's line, giving your answer in the form y = mx + c.
- 4.The formula for the area of a trapezium is A = (a + b)h / 2, where a and b are the parallel side lengths and h is the height. Make h the subject of the formula.
- 5.A rule turns each input x into an output y. An input of 1 gives an output of 1, an input of 2 gives an output of 4 and an input of 3 gives an output of 9. Work out the rule.
- 6.A rectangular garden has width w metres and length (w + 3) metres. A gardener writes its perimeter as 2w + 3. Which statement corrects the gardener's mistake?
- 7.The first five terms of a quadratic sequence are 4, 7, 12, 19, 28. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the nth term.
- 8.Points A(−1, 2) and B(5, 8) are the endpoints of a line segment. Work out the equation of the perpendicular bisector of AB.
- 9.A line segment has one endpoint at (−6, 2) and its midpoint at (−1, 5). Work out the coordinates of the other endpoint.
- 10.Work out the value of (x − 4)/2 + 3 when x = 10
- 11.Which expression is equivalent to 6x − (2x − 5)?
- 12.A curve has equation y = x² − 9. Which statement about its graph is correct?y = x² − 9
- 13.A straight line passes through the points (−1, 2) and (3, 14). Work out the equation of the line.
- 14.A zip-line runs from a platform 25 m high to a landing point 5 m high, over a horizontal distance of 40 m. Work out the gradient of the zip-line.
- 15.Make x the subject of the formula y = 4x − 3.y = 4x − 3
