- 1.A straight line has gradient −2 and passes through the point (3, 1). Work out the equation of the line.
- 2.A graph passes through the point (0, 1). As x increases through positive values, the graph rises more and more steeply, and as x decreases through negative values, the graph gets closer and closer to the x-axis without ever reaching it. Which of these could be the equation of the graph?
- 3.A student is asked to simplify (6x³ − 15x²)/(4x² − 10x) fully. Four attempts are shown below. Which one is correct?
- 4.A market stall's cost of hiring n tables is modelled by two formulas: Formula A: C = 3(2n + 5); Formula B: C = 6n + 15, where C is in pounds. A stallholder says the two formulas always give the same cost. Work out the cost given by each formula when n = 4, and use your results to decide whether the stallholder is correct.
- 5.A square tile has an area of 144 cm². Work out the side length of the tile.
- 6.The area of a circle is given by the formula A = πr², where r is the radius. Rearrange the formula to make r the subject.
- 7.Factorise 6x² − 7x − 3.
- 8.The solution set of a quadratic inequality is {x : x ≤ −3} ∪ {x : x ≥ 5}. Which of these inequalities has this solution set?
- 9.A square has vertices at (−2, 3), (−2, −3) and (4, −3). Write down the coordinates of the fourth vertex.
- 10.A line segment has one endpoint at (−6, 2) and its midpoint at (−1, 5). Work out the coordinates of the other endpoint.
- 11.Solve the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 7 and x + 2y = 8.
- 12.Solve the inequality x² ≥ 16, giving your answer using set notation.
- 13.Solve the inequality 3x − 1 ≤ 11.
- 14.The nth term of a sequence is 3n² + 2n − 1. Work out the 10th term.
- 15.Simplify (2x² + 7x + 3) ÷ (x² − 9), giving your answer as a single fraction.
