- 1.A cycle route is 84 km long. Freya sets off along it at a steady 14 km/h. Write down the function for the distance y, in kilometres, that is still to be cycled after x hours.
- 2.Using the table of values of f(x) (x = 0, 1, 2, 3 gives f(x) = 5, 8, 4, 1), work out the value of −f(x) when x = 1.
- 3.Solve the inequality 5x − 3 > 2x + 9.
- 4.A geometric sequence has first term 3 and common ratio 2. Work out the 5th term of the sequence.
- 5.A circle has centre (0, 0) and equation x² + y² = 64. Write down the radius of the circle.
- 6.There are 30 students in a Year 10 maths class. There are 2 more boys than girls. Work out the number of boys and the number of girls.
- 7.The graph of y = f(x) has a maximum turning point at (5, 8). Which of these correctly gives the corresponding turning point on the graph of y = −f(x + 1), and its type?
- 8.x = 5. Work out the value of 3x² − 4.
- 9.Solve the inequality 3x − 1 ≤ 11.
- 10.A rectangle is x cm wide and twice as long as it is wide, so its area A cm² is given by A = 2x². Work out A when x = 3.
- 11.A recipe gives the cooking time, in minutes, for a chicken as T = 40m + 20, where m is the mass in kg. A chicken has a mass of 1.8 kg. Work out the cooking time in hours and minutes.
- 12.Write y = x² + 12x + 40 in the form (x + a)² + b, and hence write down the minimum value of y.y = x² + 12x + 40
- 13.A model rocket's height is given by h = −5t² + 20t, where h is in metres and t is in seconds. A student says the graph of h against t is n-shaped. Which statement gives the correct verdict on the SHAPE and the reason that settles it from the equation?
- 14.A speed-time graph shows a constant speed of 15 m/s for 20 seconds. Work out the distance travelled, using the area under the graph.
- 15.A student claims: 'For every positive integer n, n² + n + 1 is a prime number.' Which value of n shows that this claim is false?
