- 2.Using the table of values of f(x) (x = 0, 1, 2, 3 gives f(x) = 5, 8, 4, 1), work out the value of −f(x) when x = 1.
- 3.The perimeter, P, of a rectangle with length l and width w is calculated using P = 2l + 2w. What kind of mathematical statement is P = 2l + 2w?
- 4.The graph of y = f(x) passes through the point (0, 4). Work out the y-coordinate of the point where the graph of y = −f(x) + 5 crosses the y-axis.
- 5.Write down the expression that means the same as 'subtract 5 from n, then divide the result by 2'.
- 6.Solve the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 7 and x + 2y = 8.
- 7.A population of bacteria doubles every 3 hours. It starts at 800. Work out the population after 9 hours.
- 8.f(x) = x³ − 3x − 5. Given that f(2.2) = −0.952 and f(2.3) = 0.267, work out what this shows about the equation x³ − 3x − 5 = 0.y = x
- 9.When a number is added to its square the result is 30. Work out the possible values of the number.
- 10.Two numbers have a sum of 24. Their difference is 6. Work out the two numbers.
- 11.The graph of y = f(x) passes through the point (0, 4). Work out the y-coordinate of the point where the graph of y = f(x) − 6 crosses the y-axis.
- 12.Write down the expression that means 5 more than half of n.
- 13.Simplify fully: (x + 2)/(3x) × 6x²/(x² − 4)
- 14.Solve x² + 3x − 10 = 0.
